So I Got Carried Away

I think I might have developed a dust allergy. Ow. I am rather discouraged with the amount of stuff that I have bought and failed to install on my bike. Sigh. There is one light I am very sad about because I love it but I didn’t understand the diagrams and it doesn’t attach. I should offer it up to people. When my headache has subsided (I’ve had a lot of them lately, whine), I’ll give it one more attempt to figure out a fix.

Oh, Man Was That Bad

Ok, so I was really board and I was just sort of browsing around looking for something to watch when I found an older sci-fi movie that I hadn’t seen; Battle of Los Angeles on Netflix. I thought it was Battle: Los Angeles. But it just turned out to be one of The Asylum’s direct to video releases. It has _terrible_ plotting but it has several female characters who NEVER ONCE talk about guys, but rather run around getting the job done. The male lead still wins the day but only by being talked through it by one of the women (who can’t do it because of an injury). One… Read More

Awesome People

You know, I’ve had three different conversations with three different people lately which have come down to “You are awesome, but you don’t understand the extent of your awesomeness because you value things that are not the same as what you’re good at, and/or have high enough standards that you don’t recognize the bars you’ve already leapt over.” People? If you’re reading this, chances are you’re awesome. Because why would I be friends with boring people? Seriously.

Double Trouble

So I am going to be an aunt (again, soon) to twins. Now I need to do a couple of things and I am really excited about all of it. I want to host a baby shower. This time the baby shower will be for twins. I think that twin baby showers present unique opportunities, at least for me, and there is a lot of room to be creative. This should be a fun shower theme to plan. Before when I helped we didn’t really have a theme. But since then I have learned a lot about planning and it will be easier having a theme, because you can apply… Read More

To Review Not Plug

How can you reivew an author without making it sound like an advertisement? I wish I knew better. But I’m really excited about a particular, relatively unknown author, and I wanted to get the word out about her stuff. Her name is Syne Mitchell, and she has written a number of books, here are a few: Murphy’s Gambit, Technogenesis, The Changeling Plague, and End in Fire. What she writes is the hard SF stuff that I’m such a great fan of, but she writes it with a lot more soul than most hard SF authors. SF writers have often been accused of writing plot at the expense of character. But,… Read More

Two Down, Infinite To Go

Home safe. Some wonderful neighbor cleaned the driveway from the last storm! I must find and thank. I have already cleaned the driveway. It is in no way perfect but the weather turned to rain as I was doing it so it would have been much harder tomorrow. When I came in I shook ice off my coat. I was only outside for 40min and it wasn’t doing much of anything when I started. Stay in tonight people – those roads are going to get nasty!

Future of Computers

What can computers do now that you never dreamed would be possible? What do you hope they’ll be able to do in the future? Since I started using computers in 1992, I can’t say that on a technical level computers are doing things that I never dreamed possible, but on a social level, I’m constantly amazed. For example, in grade school, anyone who used a computer was geeky, and to get the cool computer stuff, you had to go to small shops where old guys would smoke and talk about shit you never heard of before like MFM and RLL drives and soldering their own serial ports and what not.… Read More
